Yet I prefer the stone-cold original soundtrack above all. Generally, I like the pixel remaster soundtrack better, especially the battle themes. I will check it, out after I finish this game. Originally posted by Lily:Hey, how does this pixel remaster soundtrack compare to the PSP version? I need to play that one again, plus it includes the original SNES soundtrack too. It was so powerful, even in the original OST on SNES, but here in the PR it is just subdued and weak. It is such a weird choice for the first music you hear from the game. Same for the opening scene with the Red Wings, the main part of that theme is pushed to the background of the music. Like in Golbez's theme, they don't even get the pitch of the notes correct to match how they sounded in the original OST. My biggest issue with the PR OST for FFIV is how they seemingly get some of the harmonizing wrong. It really is a disappointment for me personally, but I can totally understand how someone would like it. And playing through the game I'd rather have the original OST than this weak re-imagining of the tracks that I hold so dear. But to me, and obviously as you said everyone will have different opinions, it just doesn't sound as good as so many other versions I've heard. Maybe if I had never heard another mix or version of the original FFIV sound track I may feel differently about the PR versions, since I'm sure to many they will sound "better" because they are, in fact, not created using the synth chip from a 16-bit system. I think my biggest issue is that other remasters and even fan symphonic remixes of these tracks sound better and fuller to me than the PR OST for FFIV. Same here, I first played it as FF2 on the SNES, and it was also my first true RPG experience which is why it holds such a special place in my heart among all the Final Fantasy games. It was FF6's remastered music that I was slightly disappointed in. ![]() FF4 is my favorite FF of all time, my very first game in the franchise (when it was FF2 on the SNES) and what got me interested in game music in general, and I thought the Pixel Remastered music for FF4 is some of the best of the entire remaster series. Originally posted by Ronjo:This is super interesting as it really does show just how much variance there is on how different people experience the exact same thing. I think the soundtrack isn't optimized for surround sound so while YMMV, I'd suggest listing in Stereo to avoid any issues with parts of the new remastered soundtrack not being reproduced as intended. But can't help but feel like I was robbed by Square Enix on this one, since the music is one of the most important parts of FF's for me, especially the OST from FFIV.Īnyone know if there is a mod with a proper symphonic remaster of all the tracks that will work with FFIV PR?Įdit: After changing back to the PR version and listing on STEREO, rather than surround sound speakers/headphones, it sounded a bit better. Again, I am so disappointed by the remaster of the music in IV, but at least mods exist to fix that for me. The experience of the PR for FFIV is so much better with the proper music. ![]() ![]() I didn't bother with Memoria, but the only thing you lose is the addition of a built in music player so that's fine. This mod restores the original SNES soundtrack using the original SNES synth, but the tracks are uncompressed and use a modified UnityPlayer.dll file to sound better than the originals in some ways. I was finally forced to go download the Synthetic Origins FFIV Pixel Remaster OST Mod [because I just couldn't take how poorly redone these tracks are anymore by the time I reached Damcyan. It is EXTREMELY disappointing because I was looking forward to making it to IV because it's my favorite. Some of the tracks are just downright BAD and sound orders of magnitude WORSE than the original SNES tracks. ![]() Instruments are not normalized, emphasis is put on parts of the tracks that makes no sense, while the main parts are pushed into the background. Then I got to my favorite Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy IV, and the soundtrack is. I've heard the tracks redone from other remakes of the games, but the PR ones are my favorites for I - III. They all evoked the nostalgia of the original OSTs but with amazing remastered tracks using real instruments to bring the OSTs into the modern age. FF I - III were great, and the remastered music was amazingly well done IMO. So I'm working my way through the Pixel Remasters.
